FOREST, BEARS, WILD ORCHIDS AND INSECTS

One of the forests purchased by Wildland is in Valea Gainii. This forest is composed out of old beech and spruce trees and shelters several species of wild orchids such as bird’s-nest orchid (Neottia nidus-avis), narrow-leaved Helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia) or common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii).

Invertebrates in this area find ideal conditions to thrive. Two important insect species – protected all over Europe by the Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the Conservation of Natural Habitats and of Wild Fauna and Flora – longhorn beetle (Morimus funereus) and European ground beetle (Carabus variolosus) – are quite frequent in the forest.
