Wildlife Snow Tracking in Leaota

These days, Leaota is covered by a thick layer of snow. The landscape is breath-taking, from the virgin forests at the lower altitudes to the alpine pastures on the mountain tops.

The snow offers good condition for winter tracking, since wild mammals are generally difficult to observe in the dense forests. By observing and interpreting the signs they leave behind, we can get important data about their presence and their activity.

The winter tracking programme conducted by our employees, correlated with the network of camera-traps and genetic sampling of large carnivores, will allow us to obtain accurate data about the main routes and areas used, including a good estimation of the overall wildlife populations.

Tracks in the snow can tell what kinds of animals inhabit the area, and camera-traps help to identify individual fur patterns of lynx.
